DNR Sends Responsible Party Letter to 3M for PFAS at Wausau Greystone
- 3M Company, PFAS
- March 25, 2025
According to public records available on the Wisconsin DNR’s website, 3M Company received a Responsible Party Letter from state regulators related to Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) identified at its Wausau Greystone Quarry. The Responsible Party letter is dated March 10, 2025, and it can be accessed directly on the government’s website.
The DNR website page for this new open Environmental Repair Program (ERP) site lists 410 Decator Drive as the address, while also providing the PDF of the lab data, tables, and figures related to the notification of the hazardous substance discharge. The submission date listed on the notification is February 14, 2025.
The data and information — available for review in public records — provides concentrations of PFAS identified in samples. For example, sample MW-4, in the table and map provided by the environmental consultant, appears to show a concentration of NEtFOSAA of 8,300 ng/L.
According to other public records, in relation to another contaminated site in Wausau, the EPA sent an information request letter, dated August 6, 2024, to 3M Company which specifically inquired about NEtFOSAA.
