Former Wausau Center Mall Property Now Listed as an Open DNR ERP Site

According to the DNR’s online database, the former Wausau Center Mall property is now listed as an open DNR Environmental Repair Program (ERP) site, showing a start date of July 1, 2021. The DNR’s website lists Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Lead as substances at the 301 Washington Street property.

Documents that had been submitted to the DNR can be viewed embedded below or via this link to the PDF on the DNR’s website. The documents indicate that the DNR was notified on 6/15/21 and include test results and sample locations.

The submitted documents indicate that the “discharge” was reported by Ken Lassa of REI, and list the “Responsible Party (RP) and/or RP Representative” as the City of Wausau. As part of the development agreement with WOZ, the City of Wausau reportedly included an environmental indemnification clause, agreeing to defend and hold harmless the Developer and other parties from any environmental liabilities or consequences.
